Open CONNECT Rack
Open serve was very pleased to be commissioned by our friends at MAVIS Broadcast to design and produce a rack-mount solution for the Atomos Shogun CONNECT device.
In short the brief was to achieve the following objectives:
- Rack mount compatible
- Desktop compatible
- Reduction in cable clutter
- Incorporate a combined power supply for dual units
- Front accessible tool-less SSD caddy
- Simple user friendly design

Proof of concept render
Detailed designs to replicate real life production. All components in 3d model form are combined to give a realistic representation of the final prototype model, a critical and important part of the design and engineering process. During this step several issues can arise, templates and isolated parts of the model will be printed in 3d form to determine the accuracy of critical measurements within the model and design.
Prototype
The prototype model was fabricated from mild steel utilising laser cutting and metal formation techniques with a fine tolerance of 0.3mm and a powder coat finish. The SSD caddies have been selected specifically for tool less operation, simply plug and play whilst extending access to front of the rack device for easy access. A high quality medical grade power supply was also selected to provide the Shogun Connect units with a high quality and reliable concurrent power source, utilising a single 10amp C14 IEC connection. Locking DC jacks remove the potential for an accidental power unplug when patching the cables.
The Connect rack mount solution utilises standard rack spacing and measurements making it an ideal addition to any AV/OB rack to house the popular Shogun Connect device. Equally The connect rack fits neatly into a 4u sleeve for the ideal desktop solution.
