Approach & Philosophy

Necessity has often been considered the mother of inventions, naturally a creative functional design process often occurs to fill the void. Open Serve has emerged through scenarios such as this, when there is a need for an object or product that does not exist.

Over several decades Open Serve has gained significant experience in consulting, designing, and delivering bespoke audio-visual systems and products within the proffesional video industries. Projects have comprised of bespoke media servers, fibre optic video and network transmission systems, and many more. These systems and designs have been used extensively throughout the UK and Europe ranging from corporate events to live television.

This experience has led to a deeper understanding and knowledge of design and engineering process. Our main aim is to “keep things simple” systems and designs become complex naturally due to requirements.

We aim to consult, design, create and deliver with efficiency and accuracy.

Consultation

We engage with our clients to assess specific need and requirements, this can be a simple conversation or an in-person meeting to cover more complex systems.

Design

After an initial consultation, objectives and ideas are drawn up and analysed. This is often in the form of creative ideas paired with practical solutions, simple trial and error is often applied at the early stages to establish feasibility. A short list of applicable solutions and or system parts are drawn up with combinations of functionality and feasibility in mind. A product or solution must have functional design and budget within its foundations.

In the case of a real world product, 2d isometric cad drawings along with 3d models will be developed and fine-tuned to prove the concept product/solution. Industry standard software is utilised to produce prof of concept illustrations in both 2d and 3d form. This is very useful to set expectations with regards to aesthetics along with functionality. We aim to produce matching illustrations with real-life items.

Functional prototype

A functional prototype is a sample or model of a product built to test a concept or process, it can also serve as a visual prop to be replicated, improved, and learned from. The term is found in a variety of domains, from design and electronics to software programming and most importantly product development. This process can enhance design and often highlight potential issues which may need to be modified. Often several designs will be drafted during the creative process with several minor changes associated to each.

Engineer and deliver

Consistency and high standards are the primary focus within our production service. With a keen eye for detail and a passion for quality, we deliver products to exacting standards and specifications.
